Counseling Internship

Arden Shores is a private practice group of therapists. Interns will learn how to work in an office setting, in person with clients. For graduate students working towards finishing their master in counseling psychology, with the intention of working towards LPCC licensure after graduation. The Counseling Internship focuses on learning and is designed to train new counselors in the practical application of counseling theories in private practice. Counseling interns will work under supervision with a board approved supervisor for the duration of the internship.

Interns will work the during of the academic year in accordance with their school’s requirements and academic schedule. Internship are typically completed in 9-12 consecutive months, with flexible start and end times. At least 50% hours will be directly working with clients. Interns will receive 1-2 hours of weekly of supervision, and attend weekly staff meetings, including group consults.

Counseling interns will learn to use computer EHR system for scheduling and charting. Interns will learn to interview, assess, diagnoses and treat mental health conditions using diagnostic tools, develop their clinical theory, use clinical judgement and interventions. Interns will write diagnostic assessments, treatment plans and progress notes. Interns will also utilize coordination of care and make referrals as needed.

Counseling interns are able to works with a variety of ages and mental health conditions as part of the learning process. Interns will conduct individual therapy sessions, and meet with parents when working with minors. Interns have the option to work with couples, marriage and/or family therapy, if desired. Interns can also choose to works with early childhood 0-5 and receive additional DHS trainings if interested.

Intern will need a computer to use for email, charting and scheduling on the practice network. Interns will share a furnished office according to their schedule. Interns can use their own books, materials or other equipment as part of their theoretical modality.

About the Supervisor: Shannon Richmond, MA LPCC is a board approved supervisor, a registered play therapist, and certified in EMDR. Shannon is a client centered therapist who utilizes multiple types of therapy modalities in daily practice, including motivational interview, Adlerian, sand tray, expressive arts, CBT skills and mindfulness. Shannon has experience working with clients ages 4-75, and most commonly works with age 6-30 range. Shannon specialized in treating anxiety, depression and trauma.

Job responsibilities: Therapist will need to start and maintain credentialing with insurance. Therapist will be responsible for building a caseload of clients, inputting patient data, verifying insurance, complete all charting, maintaining paperwork and billing. Therapist will attend weekly meetings/consult.

Qualifications: Therapist should be licensed in Minnesota, with an unrestricted license and not be on the Medicare/Medicaid exclusionary list. Unlicense LPC/LPCC track practitioners will also be considered. Currently credentialed with insurance, a plus but not required.

Skills: Therapist must be self-directed, motivated and able to work independently. Therapist should have strong ethics and good boundaries. We are looking for someone who is friendly, hardworking, who has a growth mindset and wants to be apart of small group of therapists. 

Working hours: A full-time therapist will build a caseload of 25-35 clients and will likely work 35-45 hours per week, with time split between client appointments, paperwork and billing tasks. Full time is approximately 20 client appointments per week, with flexible scheduling. Therapist will provide services in the office, both in-person and by telehealth. Unlicensed therapist will be provided one hour of individual and one hour of group supervision every week. A full-time caseload/schedule can take up to 3 months to build.

Education requirements: Eligible candidates will have earned a Master’s, Ph.D. or PsyD degree in counseling psychology, social work or marriage and family therapy. 

Experience requirements: Ideal canidates will have a 1 year graduate level experience working with clients as a mental health practitioner and/or provider. Play therapy, expressive arts, and/or willing to work with kids is a plus.

Benefits: New therapists are eligible for medical and dental benefits after 90 days. All therapist are W-2 employees and paid every two weeks as a percentage of revenue recieved in the two weeks leading up to payroll day.

Other Info: Therapists are paid based on a percentage of reimburstments for services provided. Therapist offices are not furnished and therapist will need to bring their own furniture, computer and decor for their personal office space.
